Comastic

A brilliant and picturesque scene of such comastic ὕβρις is given by Herondas in the dicastic harangue of the Πορνοβοσκός, the low pander who, in spite of consciousness of his despised trade, pleads for justice against the violence of one who has set fire to his door-frame, broken in his door, beaten soundly the pander himself, and maltreated one of his girls.

Compare the tradition that in Syracuse it was customary for the countryfolk (agroikoi) to compete in song, and that the victor remained in the city while the others went out to the villages collecting food for themselves and no doubt causing quite a comastic commotion.

We could choose to imagine him (and hypothetical stagings are always themselves acts of interpretation) as joining the procession with some solemnity, perhaps. But we might prefer to picture him as contributing something more like a comastic sideshow to it.
