Replies to the tweets tried to undermine the image by posting other memes countering the original's idea, or by mocking it. In this case, three countermemes were posted, all hijacking and repurposing the original meme, other memes posted by the ADL, or Matt Furie himself.

The post brought in half a million likes, and launched a wave of countermemes under the same audio tag, a slowed down version of Dissolve's familiar hook.

Future reports from any source should be treated with caution. What we can see is not the "fog of war," in the old-fashioned sense; instead it is a kind of swirling tornado, a maelstrom of claims and counterclaims, memes and countermemes, real battles taking place away from television screens and fake ones happening on camera.
