Hypermissile

The sight of another hypermissile impacting the Shield mollified him only a little; the backup fire-control comp had taken over without a hiccup, but precious little good did that do him, isolated on the bridge with no way of knowing what was going on. The only comfort, and bare comfort at that, was that there was only one lance. And it was damaged, too.

Pavanaz tripped into hyperspace, burned the cruiser with his exhaust, threw all power to his screens and deflected the carrier's hypermissiles.

He did not need what it represented: a ship-size heat signature, something out in space beyond the asteroid, just a few kelvins. In the tactical display, blue diamonds shot toward the spot, hypermissiles tracking the tiny difference in temeprature. The ship did not fight back.
