Scribblery

Soon after my return from India, in the year 1807, our friend John Bannister opened his funny budget, which he took with him about the country, and to which I, with many other far more distinguished drolls, contributed my scrap of scribblery.

An’ Willie, the poet, o’ paper run scant, / Has spoilt a’ his auld minnie’s wa’s wi’ his scribblery, / Wi’ a burned stick end he has written a rant— / They’re black as the deevil wi’ Meggie M‘Givelry.

The annual will contain historical sketches, illustrations being profusely scattered, having also likenesses of members of the faculty present and past, records of the collegiate department and dozen of other interesting bits of scribblery that only college students can think of.

A certain phrase, a page or a chapter, that had seemed, in the heat of our scribblery, to be adequate, clear, and perhaps (did we whisper it?) almost eloquent, will appear at some distance in time to be thin, vague, and even shoddy: not what we meant but far from it.

Tom Ferris, who wrote several laugh-provoking guest columns for this scribblery when he lived the quiet life in Deerfield Beach, has plunged back into action as advertising director for the Mackle Co.

As for English-language posts- they account for more than 30 % of all the scribblery, which by far out-englishes ngs like s.c.italian or s.c.netherlands.
