Shitheadery

In a conversation with a teacher at another school, I brought up suspensions, and she told even more striking tales of tomfoolery and shitheadery at her school.

Chelsea took German because she’d heard that the universities there offered free tuition, even to foreign students. Four more years, she’d said, and I can tell them all to take their fucked-up lives and their trust fund and their codependent shitheadery and shove it up whatever orifice they got left, cuz I am outta there!

Further demonstrating the chronic reverse-wisdom of orange-hued individuals, the SUV driver entered the drive-thru lane and attempted to place an order. Refused burgery goodness on grounds of prior shitheadery, he threatened an employee’s life.

In school, cool is currency, and cool, apparently, is letting shitheads get away with being shitheads. It’s praising them for their shitheadery. / Anyone who believes that the world operates on a basis of right and wrong has never been to secondary school.

I suppose it’s easier to focus on the considerable ways that men are shitheads and abusers than the considerable ways that we ourselves prop them up. By “we,” I include myself. If it’s going to be #TimesUp on the shitheadery, if the political demand of the moment is for men to give up the toxic masculinity and toxic sexual behaviors, are there vestigial aspects of femininity that should perhaps be on the chopping block too?
