What’s more, COVID-19 isn’t the only sickness going around, as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases are prevalent, creating a “tripledemic.”

With few to no restrictions in place and travel and socializing back in full swing, an expected winter rise in Covid cases appears poised to collide with a resurgent influenza season, causing a "twindemic" — or even a "tripledemic," with a third pathogen, respiratory syncytial virus, or R.S.V., in the mix.

But experts told ABC News the country may now be facing the threat of a "tripledemic" as doctors see an early rise in other pediatric respiratory viruses, particularly respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.

Masking can feel like a thing of the past in the US, even in cities such as New York and Los Angeles that once embraced the precaution. But as healthcare facilities grapple with a "tripledemic" of respiratory viruses – with Covid, flu and RSV surging simultaneously – experts are once again urging the public to don face coverings.

Even in the absence of a pandemic, an infection could take a serious toll on Addison, but this winter's uptick in the number of COVID, flu and respiratory syncytial viruses, or the “tripledemic,” has put families of children with chronic health conditions or compromised immunity on higher alert.
